Wights are undead hostile mobs that spawn uncommonly in most Betweenlands biomes. They also spawn from Monster Spawners in Shrine Dungeons, Cragrock Towers, and the Wight Fortress, and are occasionally summoned by the Primordial Malevolence.
Wights were once members of a peaceful civilization that resided in the Betweenlands. However, the dimension was transformed into a nightmare when the dark energies of the Nether surged through a portal that was opened by the druid Revil o' Elcanrab. Through this process, the people were transformed into Wights, spirit-like entities driven by an uncontrollable anger. Revil himself became the Prime Wight and has authority over most of the other Wights.
Wights are white, ghostly figures. They wander around slowly with their heads hung low to the ground with a semi-transparent texture, and cause trippy distortion of the landscape around them. When they notice the player they will look up, mouths agape, and attack on sight with melee. At this point they are also much faster and their texture becomes completely opaque. The player can avoid being noticed by sneaking when around the Wight so it cannot 'hear' them, but cannot damage it in this state. It is worth noting that Wights remain in this state in Creative mode, and as such cannot be damaged normally there.
Wights have a unique ability. They will occasionally transform into a 'volatile' form once hit by the player, turning the Wight into a puff of white smoke with only their head and screaming violently. This form of theirs is capable of flying as well as passing through blocks, and will chase the player quickly. If it catches up to them, it will 'possess' them in a way, and their head will revolve around the player's vision. It will then spawn volatile souls that fly around the possessed player, dealing damage to them as well as to other nearby entities over time until either the player or wight is dead (the volatile souls can be attacked to damage the Wight). This form of attack deals magic damage, meaning it bypasses armour protection. If the player manages to escape the soul form for long enough before being latched onto, or after it having latched on for a considerable amount of time, it will transform back into the physical form for the time being.
Wights can be killed in one hit using a rare loot weapon, the Wight's Bane.
Wights are relatively easy to handle if they are found individually as long as you have a decent Betweenlands sword. They do run fast and have much health, but when alone are less likely to be able to use their soul attack, and even so usually only for a short time; therefore they can be dealt pretty much like swamp hags. However, in places where they spawn in larger groups, usually around spawners, the soul attack becomes overall more likely to happen and to last longer, and that attack can kill swiftly due to its ability to bypass armour protection. In these cases, it is best to deal with them one at a time, or run away and try to ward off the souls. If you mean to avoid them when they are nearby, remember that they cannot see you when you are sneaking.
